A former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Barr Silas Onu has denounced the Congress held in the state last weekend which produced a new party Chairman and other state officials.
Onu told newsmen in Abakaliki Monday that the exercise was a “mere gathering of friends” and urged the public to dismiss it.
“It was an affront on a valid court order, which barred the conduct of such activity.
“We have no faction in PDP but an attempt by an individual who feels that the party belongs to him, to hijack it.
“You don’t conduct a congress when there is a valid court order barring such until hearing into the case is concluded.
“Anybody who says he conducted congress is directly affronting a valid court order, and such is a waste of time.”
Onu noted that though he would not be banking on rumours, it seemed the people who conducted such were playing a card aimed at destroying the party.
“The national officer of the party who reportedly oversaw the congress is on suspension and his actions though aimed at raising dust, was an effort in futility.”
Our Correspondent reports that the Congress saw the emergence of Mr Peter Nwele as Chairman among other officials.
