The Member representing Ohaozara/ Onicha/ Ivo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Chief Nkemkamma Kama has offered scholarship to a prodigious student newscaster and two other students up to university level.
The teen prodigy, held the audience spellbound with newscasting skills in Igbo dialect during a reception for students and teachers of the lawmaker’s holiday tutorial programme.
Two others students who made various renditions at the occasion were also rewarded with the scholarship during the event at the lawmaker’s hometown Ishiagu in Ivo Local Government Area of the state.
Kama remarked that he offered the scholarship to encourage other students develop their talents and pay attention to education.
“This gesture is also, aimed at making other students who have not identified with the holiday tutorials to do so.
“We are waiting for the results of the scholarship examinations for students in the constituency to come out to fully commence the scholarship process.
“We are also renovating schools across the constituency as we realise that education is the bedrock of success in any society.”
He stated that his desire is for every child from the constituency to access education to the fullest, stressing that the holiday tutorials would be organised yearly.
“We intend to infuse activities such as skills acquisition, empowerment among others in subsequent editions to harness the self-reliance talents in the students.
“Youths presently engage in meaningful ventures such as barbing, carpentry among others even when still schooling.
“We have about 2,500 students in attendance in this year’s holiday tutorials and we hope that the number would increase subsequently.’
The lawmaker thanked the teachers who organised the holiday tutorials for their commitment and presented fertilisers among other farm inputs to them.
Dr Napoleon Ekem, Coordinator of the holiday tutorials commended the lawmaker for the initiative noting that it had achieved the desired aim.
“The tutorials were organised in schools across the constituency and afforded students to be engaged in academy works during the holidays.
“The lawmaker provided books and other educational items during the exercise and you could see the appreciation from the students during the reception.”
The teen newscaster, Okoro thanked the lawmaker for the scholarship award and noted that it would motivate her for greater academic excellence.
Kama presented cash prizes to students and teachers who distinguished themselves during the holiday tutorials.
