The defection of former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been described as a positive development that would help the APC claim other states of the Southeast zone apart from Imo and Ebonyi states.
Barr Obiageri Onu, National Coordinator of the Women Arise for Tinubu made the assertion in an interview noting that Anyim’s influence in the country would do the magic for the APC.
The State Woman Leader of the Ndigbo in APC Lagos said that as a former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim is versed in Nigerian politics and would use his clout to make other Southeast states wear the APC toga.
“He will provide the key to the mandate given by the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, in Abakaliki for stakeholders to unite in claiming the remaining states of the Southeast.
“Anyim is a man that Nigerians listen to and has the wealth of experience to sell the ideals of the party to the whole south East zone and Nigeria.”
She allayed fears that the APC in Ebonyi might suffer an implosion with heavyweights like Anyim among others coming under one roof.
“The development will instead be positive for the party because you have political juggernauts and forces who will bring the best in their arsenal for the party’s interest.
“When they meet or gather, everyone will have something to offer to make the party viable and responsive to members and people’s aspirations.
“APC in Lagos is a perfect example of a star-studded political platform right from the AD, ACN days and now APC.
“There are no clashes in Lagos but harmony and the best being on parade always to record landslide electoral victories since 1999 while making Lagos a model to other states.”
Onu noted that the associations under her leadership played key roles towards the defection of the former SGF, noting that they would always identify with his ideals.
“I spoke to him extensively when we met, to encourage him join the APC because it is a party of true democrats.
“During his defection, I travelled to Abakaliki and despite the mammoth crowd at the event, we were part of the epoch making event.
“This was the type of support and solidarity we offered President Bola Tinubu to emerge as the country’s President because he is the father of true democrats and a detribalised Nigerian.
“We mobilised women and youths across the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs of Lagos and today, Asiwaju is leading the country to the promised land.”
