Sunday, November 24, 2024, was a glorious day for the Women’s Wing of Amasiri Town Union (ATU) in Enugu as they gathered to celebrate the end of the year.
The ceremony, held at Peekay Gardens in New Haven, Enugu, attracted illustrious sons and daughters of the community, including the National President of ATU Women’s Wing, Dr. Mrs. Lizzy Ibiam.
The event showcased the rich cultural heritage of Amasiri, in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, with women from different village groups (Ihie, Ohaechara, Ndukwe, and Poperi) dressed in uniforms, taking turns to display their unique traditions.
The Poperi women presented a captivating history of Amasiri, highlighting the progenitors of the village groups and their migration stories.
The Ohaechara women demonstrated the preparation of “ohe sarara” (ofe nsala), a traditional soup considered the “king of all soups” in Amasiri.
The Ihie women took the audience through actions, behaviours and situations that might lead to desecrating the land whileย Ndukwe women thrilled the audience with folk songs and traditional dance steps.
In her speech, Dr. Ibiam commended the women’s spirit of unity, emphasizing its importance in development.
“I urge you not to neglect this spirit of unity as it is the key to development in your homes and community.”
Mrs. Munachimso Collins, State Chair Lady, welcomed guests and pledged the women’s continued partnership with the men in community development.
According to Munachimso, “this show of solidarity and support is the tonic we need in our desire to mobilize Amasiri women in Enugu to bring out the best God has endowed them with.”
Mr. Chidi Uchendu, ATU Chairman in Enugu, praised the women’s leadership and pledged the men’s support.
“Our women are wonderful. We shall continue to support them,” Uchendu declared.
Elder Mrs. Ijeoma Ngwuoke, keynote speaker, emphasized the importance of forgiveness in families, urging couples to avoid harbouring unforgiving spirits and grudges.
“Some couples keep diaries where they record all wrongs did to them by their spouses and refer to such wrongs at the slightest misunderstanding.
“Avoid this behaviour as it is a sure way to destroying your home and marriage,” Ngwuoke admonished.
The event was a resounding success, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Amasiri and the unity and solidarity among its women.
